Disquiet Junto Project 0642: Kick from Champagne
Dear Members of the Disquiet Junto,
It was 63º Fahrenheit this afternoon, somehow, when I took an end-of-the-(work)day walk to the ocean and back. The past week is a bit of a blur, me having been in New York, visiting family, when I last sent out a Disquiet Junto email, and me now being back home in San Francisco wondering where the jet lag lets off and the allergies begin.
First, a bit of potential planning. There is a tiny chance I will be in Scotland later this year, sometime during the (northern hemisphere’s version of) summer. If I can get my plans together soon enough, maybe we could schedule a Disquiet Junto concert, or at least a get-together. While I have designs on going very far north, I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up sticking mostly to Glasgow and Edinburgh. I might make it, as well, to England. Anyhow, if participating in an event in Scotland appeals to you, please let me know (shoot me an email at marc@disquiet.com with “Scotland 2024” in the subject line).
And that covers it. The instructions for this week’s project appear below. They were informed by a discussion about kicks in the Echo Chamber Slack (that which used to be the Disquiet Junto Slack).
And thanks, as always, for your generosity with your time, creativity, and curiosity.
Best from SF,
. . .
Disquiet Junto Project 0642: Kick from Champagne
The Assignment: Use carbonation to make a beat.
Step 1: Make kick drums from the sound of something carbonated.
Step 2: Make a rhythmic track (think techno, but certainly follow your own muse) using the result of Step 1.
Thanks to the folks in the Echo Chamber Slack whose discussion about techno and kicks informed this week’s project.
