Disquiet Junto Project 0765: Sonic Kin

Dear Members of the Disquiet Junto,
We have time for another project in advance of the festival, so we’re exploring territory similar to last week, but from a different direction and perspective. Many thanks to Chloé Bieri, Tobias Reber, and Musikfestival Bern.
I should mention that if in addition to doing a Junto project you also are posting to Lines (aka llllllll.co), where much of the Junto discussion occurs, please review that site’s Guidelines and the Terms of Service.
And that covers it. Thanks, as always for your generosity with your time, creativity, and curiosity. It means the world.
Best from San Francisco,
Marc Weidenbaum

Disquiet Junto Project 0765: Sonic Kin
The Assignment: Give space to the unheard voices of animals.
We have time for another project in advance of the festival, so we’re exploring territory similar to last week, but from a different direction and perspective.
This year at Musikfestival Bern, Chloé Bieri — singer, composer, performer, sound artist — will blend science and music for a work based on animal voices. In consultation with her and Tobias Reber of the festival team, we will be doing this following project. Submitted tracks may, possibly, become part of the performance or future work by Bieri. Video or recorded text submissions would be possible as well, as there will be video projections at the festival.
There is just one step for this project: Compose an electroacoustic piece using animal sounds to give space to the voices of the unheard. (As with any Disquiet Junto project, that instruction is left up for your own interpretation.) You might record your own animal sounds, create them yourself, or utilize them from resources such as freesound.org.
This is the fifth project in this year’s collaboration between Musifestival Bern and the Disquiet Junto, in our eighth year of working together.
